Career Development Center

麻豆破解版 Job Offer Policy

麻豆破解版 College welcomes your interest in hiring our students. We offer several ways for employers to engage with students, including posting job opportunities, visiting campus, attending career fairs, and conducting interviews.

Our Career Development Center (CDC) aims to give students sufficient time to carefully consider their employment options and make informed decisions. We promote job opportunities through our Career Development website, Handshake, campus bulletin boards, faculty/staff referrals, and direct candidate outreach.

麻豆破解版 Student Philosophy

麻豆破解版 College students are committed to attending scheduled meetings and interviews, notifying employers of any changes, and withdrawing from recruiting processes they do not intend to pursue. The Career Development Center enforces a zero-tolerance policy for unethical or unprofessional behavior during the job search.

Employer Expectations, Job Postings and Hiring Practices

We ask that our recruiting partners please respect and adhere to the below expectations whether you recruit on campus or virtually.

job posting

The Career Development Center uses a web鈥恇ased application system, for all of our online job posting needs. In order approve your job posting, employers are expected to:

  • Post current openings for internships, permanent employment or fellowship opportunities.
  • Provide sufficient detail to fully convey to students the essential functions of the job opening.
  • Post communications that are free from 鈥渟exually explicit, obscene, libelous, defamatory, threatening, harassing, abusive, or hateful content; or anything that is embarrassing or offensive to another person or entity,鈥 as referenced by National Association for Colleges and Employers (NACE) policy guidelines.
  • Postings or e鈥恗ail communications to students are not intended for advertisements or solicitations for employment.

CDC will review the employer鈥檚 website and job description for appropriateness prior to approval of the job posting in Handshake.

Interviews

As a best practice, we recommend that employers schedule off鈥恈ampus interviews with a
minimum of 3 days鈥 notice to the student. This time is critical for students to arrange travel and rearrange
academic and/or other leadership commitments.

  • Scheduling Needs: The CDC will work to customize interview schedules to meet recruiters鈥 needs and ensure only qualified, work-authorized students are scheduled.
  • Candidate Changes: Employers must notify candidates if removed from interviews, explaining the reason. If a candidate was unqualified, the CDC will notify them.
  • Cancellations: Employers should work with the CDC to inform students of any interview cancellations.
  • Inclement Weather: If the college closes due to weather, the CDC will cancel events and work with employers to reschedule.
Professional conduct

Recruitment activities, whether on or off-campus (e.g., dinners, tours, career fairs), should be alcohol-free to maintain a professional environment. Many 麻豆破解版 students are not of legal drinking age.

job offer communication
  • 麻豆破解版 College encourages employers to give students up to six weeks to respond to job offers, allowing them time to make informed decisions about their professional and personal future. Flexibility is appreciated for students who request additional time. Note: Employers may set an earlier response date for offer acceptance. Please communicate this date to students upfront. If you plan to accept an offer, it's best to respond by the requested date rather than waiting until the deadline.
  • Employers should clearly communicate their offer, including a method whereby the student can formally
accept, examples might include; electronic offer or written document.
  • We expect employers to not use undue pressure as a tactic to make a student commit to an opportunity
as this can lead to students accepting an offer due to pressure rather than due to fit.
  • We expect employers to report to the Career Development Center their hires so that the center can track
these hires in the system. An email correspondence can be sent to cdc@skidmore.edu with the following
information: student name, employer name, opportunity type and job title.
Rescinding job offers

If circumstances arise which warrant an employer to rescind a job offer, the employer must first report this to the Career Development Center. Rescinding a job offer means the student must restart their search again. While we understanding that sometimes this may occur, repeat instances may damage the credibility of your organization amongst the student body.
