Resources for Students with Disabilities

At the Â鶹Æƽâ°æ College Career Development Center, we are committed to supporting students with visible and non-visible disabilities throughout their career exploration, preparation, and job search processes. Our goal is to provide you with the resources and guidance you need to succeed.

Key Considerations for Students with Disabilities

When exploring internship, job, or graduate program opportunities, you may have specific questions or concerns related to your disability. Here are some common topics you may need to consider:

  • What laws apply to me?
  • What are my rights when seeking employment?
  • What are my rights under the ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act)?
  • When and how should I disclose my disability to a potential employer?
  • What is a "reasonable accommodation"?

What is a "Reasonable Accommodation"?

A reasonable accommodation is any change or adjustment to a job, work environment, or work processes that allows you to apply for a job, perform job functions, or access workplace benefits equally with others. Common types of accommodations include:

  • Physical modifications (e.g., ramps, accessible restrooms, workspace adjustments)
  • Assistive technology (e.g., screen readers, TTYs, accessible computer software)
  • Interpreters (e.g., sign language interpreters for deaf students or readers for blind students)
  • Flexible workspaces (e.g., quieter work areas for those with mental disabilities)
  • Accessible training materials (e.g., materials in Braille, audio, or digital formats)
  • Time off for medical treatment related to a disability

These accommodations help ensure that students with disabilities can fully participate in their career and academic pursuits.
