This proposal to terminate is made after many months of discussion and deliberation. The proposal grows out of concerns for the long-term viability of the Consortium and the program, as well as a desire to develop a ТщЖЙЦЦНтАц-specific program that allows the College more control over the academic program in India and that offers our students greater access to the program itself. The NYSICCSI program allows for 4 to 5 ТщЖЙЦЦНтАц students (out of a total of 20 program participants) to participate in a fall-only program each year. Once in India students travel throughout northern India and take a total of five courses taught by various instructors and lecturers. The curriculum is limited to these four courses which all students take. A faculty director, provided by one of the Consortium member schools each year, oversees all academics on site and ensures a cohesive curriculum for the semester. Throughout the years, ТщЖЙЦЦНтАц and our students have been well-served by this program and by our membership in the Consortium. However, even though this program was a wonderful way for ТщЖЙЦЦНтАц to offer a study opportunity in India for our students and to expand our portfolio of programs into Asia, our institutional needs have changed significantly in the past five years. The NYSICCSI program no longer meets those needs. In addition, the administration of the Consortium and the program itself has become very problematic and time-consuming for ТщЖЙЦЦНтАц faculty and administrators. ТщЖЙЦЦНтАц College has been a member of NYSICCSI since its inception in 1990. As a founding member of the Consortium, ТщЖЙЦЦНтАц has worked diligently over the past 18 years to ensure that the program has been academically strong and that it has remained financially viable. This has not always been an easy task. Throughout the years, the Consortium has faced any number of challenges: limited student enrollment opportunities have resulted in a good number of ТщЖЙЦЦНтАц students being closed out of the program on a regular basis; at the same time a lack of student interest from other member schools has put the program in jeopardy of not running several times; lack of institutional support from other Consortium member schools has led to annual questions regarding who will serve as the faculty director; safety issues have resulted in needing to cancel the program; and there is an ongoing question regarding which member school will serve as the “agency” college and oversee the administration of the program. Unfortunately, the program finds itself in a continual state of crisis – in leadership and in enrollments. At the same time ТщЖЙЦЦНтАц student and faculty interest in India as a study abroad destination has steadily increased. We have seen more and more students apply to ТщЖЙЦЦНтАц’s India Program, as well as an increase in students who apply to and enroll in non-ТщЖЙЦЦНтАц programs in India. It is with all of this in mind that we propose that ТщЖЙЦЦНтАц terminate our affiliation with NYSICCSI. Our hope is to develop a new program that is able to better serve student and faculty interests – one that will be large enough to accommodate the increased number of students interested in India as a study destination; that will be developed specifically for ТщЖЙЦЦНтАц both in its curricular and co-curricular aspects; that will allow for a broader portfolio of courses, including better fieldwork and internship opportunities, serving a wider range of disciplines; that will not necessitate a faculty director each year (which would be too burdensome for ТщЖЙЦЦНтАц to manage) but that will offer some sort of faculty development opportunity; and that will have a much more solid administrative structure. 9AsЉУпрх !
