The minutes of March 27 were approved. The meeting schedule for CEPP next year will be Tuesdays from 5-6:30. Susan Kress was invited to speak with CEPP about IRC and Information Literacy. Susan originally came to CEPP in the fall in an attempt to combine information literacy with the writing proposal. The CEPP, in the fall, did not want to complicate the writing proposal further. Initially, there was some consideration of a task force, but IRC decided that the task force was premature. This year, in the annual report, departments, programs and the FYE are being asked about their involvement with information literacy. The FYE and the library both currently offer courses and seminars in information literacy. Discussion continued about the importance of the CEPP’s involvement. What is Information literacy? Technical literacy? Visual Literacy? Where does this come from? How can the CEPP frame this issue? How can we structure ways to educate the community on the importance of these “literacies”? Information literacy goes beyond accessing information and determining the quality of the information. Students today, are more technically literate then ever before. How can we help faculty with the curve? Can CEPP and IRC partner in these discussions? What is the role of IRC? The students offered three suggestions: Seminars in FYE in literacy A series of seminars in the 4th hour Weekend long conference CEPP decided to have a retreat in May and discuss the agenda for next year. Finally, we discussed the process we would use to determine topics for the retreat. What are the other topics that CEPP should be discussing? How do we prioritize them? Will we use the strategic plan or the academic vision statement?
