I. February 9 minutes were approved. II. The committee discussed the February 13 faculty forum on the UWW motion and planned for the February 17 community forum on UWW as well as the vote on the UWW motion at the February 27 faculty meeting. III. Erica reported that the Assessment Steering Committees student learning goals document is undergoing revision and that the Steering Committee is thinking ahead to how the learning goals can best be implemented. SGA has weighed in on the document and is considering developing a parallel set of learning goals. IV. The Committee discussed the process for suspending a program, in particular the Law and Society program, which offers a minor. The programs steering committee notes the program has seen a decline in the number of students pursuing the minor, there is only one LW-designated course, and faculty have difficulty finding space in their schedules to offer relevant courses,. The steering committee is discussing how it might preserve the mediation component of the program, however, and the process of moving current minors through the program will take two to three years to complete. No guidelines for suspending a program exist in the Faculty Handbook, and FEC will be consulted, along with Curriculum Committee and the Dean of the Faculty. V. The Committee discussed the possibility of the administration raising the enrollment caps in Scribner Seminars. Several sections could be saved by modifying the cap and enrolling 15 or 16 students per course. It is not clear whether the faculty needs to vote on raising the cap or whether the issue pertains exclusively to faculty workload, which is the province of the Dean of the Faculty. The Committee will continue this discussion next week. The meeting adjourned at 10:00 A.M.
