The September 30 minutes were approved. II. The Chair directed that the minutes reflect that the real baseball season begins today. III. Update on the Goals for Student Learning and Development: The Chair will e-mail the Goals to the faculty following the meeting, and faculty forums have been scheduled for this Thursday and Friday. Sarah Goodwin will present the Goals to IPPC. Based on her recent participation in one of President Glotzbachs Town Hall Meetings, the Chair reported strong interest in assessment among parents, alumni, and influential donors. IV. CAPs report and recommendation to the DOF: After considerable discussion, the Committee unanimously endorsed the CAPs report with a recommendation to the Dean of Faculty that the implementation of the report be reviewed in two years. The Committees view is that the report establishes a framework for negotiation on a course-by-course basis. V. Grade Appeal Policy: The Committee discussed the Preamble to the document in considerable detail. The Committee also discussed whether CAS should become an elected committee, given the responsibilities that will be imposed upon it should the policy in its current form be enacted. Might CASs important function of offering opportunities for junior faculty to familiarize themselves with important College issues conflict with the need for a committee of experienced faculty members to hear grade appeals? One option that the Committee considered was the constitution of a committee of emeriti professors to evaluate grade appeals rather than rely on CAS to do so. VI. Next meeting: October 14, 8:30 a.m., in Library 213 Meeting was adjourned at 9:30 a.m. Respectfully submitted by Rik Scarce. - ijk hwh,h,OJQJ h,6h, hh,,-6 7 D E ABhijk^gd,^gd,gd,$a$gd,k.:p,/ =!"#$% @@@ /NormalCJ_HaJmH sH tH DAD Default Paragraph FontRiR Table Normal4 l4a (k(No ListPOP /List Paragraph ^m$ OJQJ_H k k,-67DEABhijm!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!,-67DEABhijm0000000000000000000000kk k CTv}gr]ainmBgm333m=:(aT| 808^8`0hH. ^`hH. pp^p`hH. @ @ ^@ `hH. ^`hH. ^`hH. ^`hH. ^`hH.
