In response to feedback from the most recent employee wellness interest survey, the Live More 鶹ƽ program is offering a 30-minute “Get to Know Your Benefits” session at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 25, . MVP and Optum will give a brief presentation, followed by time for questions. 

 

MVP programming available to all employees 

MVP Living Well Programs is offering programming surrounding mental health throughout the month of May. These are free (or discounted) offerings that are open to all 鶹ƽ employees.

Announcements

April final staff and faculty meetings 

The monthly staff and faculty meetings will take place this Friday, April 26. The staff meeting will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. on the second floor of Murray-Aikins Dining Hall. The faculty meeting will take place at 3:30 p.m. on the second floor ofMurray-Aikins Dining HallThe faculty meeting will be followed by a Faculty Retiree Reception from 5-7 p.m. Employees can participate in either meeting by Zoom. 

2024 President's Awards for Leadership and Service 

The President's Awards for Leadership and Service are presented to 鶹ƽ community members who have embraced the educational mission and cooperative spirit of the College through their exemplary commitment to personal excellence, campus pride, and service to our campus community. Student awards, which will be presented at the Student Leadership Awards event, will go to Apolonia Alvarez '24, Ishani Chakravorty '24, Nathaniel Lowell ' 24, and Divine Perez '24. The faculty, staff, and team awards will be presented at the Retirement and Recognition event on May 21. The staff award will go to Zhenelle Lebel, managing director of Arthur Zankel Music Center, and posthumously to Lisa Burke (1979-2023), former assistant director of Sponsored Research. The team award will go to the staff of the Office of Religious and Spiritual Life. President Conner extends his heartfelt thanks and congratulations to all recipients for their extraordinary service to 鶹ƽ.

Student Leadership Award winners 

Congratulations to the winners of this year’s Student Leadership Awards: Vicky Grijalva ’24 (Rodney Andrews Prize); Lily Schwartzman ’25 and Kartik Vaish ’25 (The Barbara Hume Memorial Award); Chloe Hanrahan ’24, Emilka Jansen ’24, and Oluebube Onwuzulu ’24 (The Katherine Scranton Rozendaal Citizenship Award); and Elizabeth Bracht ’24 and Sissi Wu ’25 (The Jane Hapeman Distinguished Service Award).

Campus chill water system activation  

Facilities Services has begun the process of starting up the campus chill water system, which provides air conditioning for some campus buildings and should be ready in early May. The following buildings are affected: Bolton Hall, Palamountain Hall, Tisch Learning Center, Barrett Center, Ladd Hall, Case Center, Howe Rounds Hall, Wait Hall, one section of Jonsson Tower, Lucy Scribner Library, and Janet Kinghorn Bernhard Theater. 

Middle States affirmation of accreditation ‌ 

‌鶹ƽ is beginning the affirmation of accreditation through (MSCHE). An informational meeting about the process will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 30, in Murray-Aikins Dining Hall and feature MSCHE Vice President Liaison Judith Sciple. All 鶹ƽ community members are encouraged to attend. Contact Amy Tweedy for more information. 

Pride Alliance Bake Sale

Pride Alliance will host a bake sale from 1-3 p.m. Friday, April 26, on the second floor of Case Center. All proceeds will go to Prism Counseling and Advocacy, an organization that provides free therapy, case management for gender-affirming care, and clothing for transgender individuals in need. Pride Alliance is looking for donations of baked goods to sell for this cause. All are welcome! For more information, contact Cassie Handler. 

‘Let’s Taco-Bout Accessibility’ 

At 5 p.m. Monday, April 29, 鶹ƽ’s ADA Commission will host “Let’s Taco-Bout Accessibility," an open forum and workshop for all 鶹ƽ community members who wish to resist disabling practices. Following short presentations from Caitlin Jorgensen (English) on Universally Designed Learning, and Kim Frederick and Will Kennerly (chemistry) on gamified approaches, students, staff, and faculty are encouraged to help generate ideas for how faculty members can apply enabling practices to their own classrooms. MDOCS' Golden Acorn Awards

At 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 1, in Filene Recital Hall, MDOCS will host its end-of-year awards show that celebrates student nonfiction media-making across campus. Acorn awardees honor MDOCS course projects as well as independent student works from the past year that are the most innovative, risk-taking, and real. Doors open at 5 p.m. to view full-length works, mingle, and enjoy light snacks and refreshments. 

鶹ƽ French Film Festival screening of ‘Gagarine’

The 鶹ƽ French Film Festival will come to a close with a screening of the magical realist masterpiece “Gagarine” at 6 p.m. Thursday, April 25, in Emerson Auditorium. “Gagarine” tells the story of Youri, a 16-year-old who dreams of becoming an astronaut, as he fights alongside his community to save the housing project where they live. The festival is free and open to the public. The film will be shown in French with English subtitles. Refreshments will be served. For more information, contact Cate Talley. 

Senior Thesis Art Exhibition Opening Reception

The annual studio art majors’ takes place May 9-18 at the Tang Teaching Museum. An opening reception is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 10. Thirty-three senior studio art majors will display their work as a capstone to their studies at 鶹ƽ.

‌Join the Workforce Team Challenge ‌Č 

‌The Workforce Team Challenge, a race supporting the Hudson-Mohawk Road Runners Club and local charities, will take place on Thursday, May 16, in Albany. To participate, select 鶹ƽ’s team and fill out all the required information. Do not check out; 鶹ƽ’s team captain, Darren Drabek, will manage payment. Contact Darren Drabek or Rachel Roe-Dale for more information, including details about carpooling and celebrations after the race.

鶹ƽ employee discount at SPAC 

As part of 鶹ƽ’s partnership with Saratoga Performing Arts Center (SPAC), all employees are eligible to receive a 20% discount on ticket purchases to Freihofer’s Saratoga Jazz Festival (June 29-30), New York City Ballet (July 9-13), and Philadelphia Orchestra (July 31-Aug. 3) performances. Eclipse glasses donations ‌ ‌ 

‌Wondering what to do with your solar eclipse glasses? Collection boxes are located in Case lobby by the Information Desk and in the lobby of the JKB Theater. Set up your own collection box and then drop off or send glasses in campus mail to Eunice Ferreira by April 30. Glasses should be free of punctures, scratches, and tears. Donations will be shipped to schoolchildren in South America for an upcoming eclipse. 

鶹ƽ Theater presents: ‘Where Are You Going, Little Horse?’  

‌Written by Rada Moskova and directed by Margarita Blush, “Where Are You Going, Little Horse?” will run through Saturday, April 27, at the JKB Mainstage Theater, with the annual House Party on Saturday, April 27. Tickets for the show, considered one of the gems of Bulgarian puppet theater, are .

Bike for free with CDPHP Cycle 

‌Anyone with a skidmore.edu email address can register for by downloading the CDPHP Cycle app and subscribing with a 鶹ƽ email address; submit promo code "鶹ƽ," enter a credit card for incidentals, and you're ready to ride. Give+Go move-out donation collection‌ From April 28 to May 18, students are invited to donate non-perishable food, clothes, and gently used home goods to our local nonprofit partners: Backstretch, Trinity Alliance, and Capital City Rescue Mission.
