Our World on the Move
Instructor(s): Smriti Tiwari, Economics
For as far back as we can trace human history, moving from one place to another has been central to human experience and has shaped our world. Although migration rate has been on the rise, significantly higher number of people (around 1 in 30) still live in the place of their birth. Why do some people move and others do not? What causes people to move? What are the intended and unintended consequences of voluntary and forced migration? We explore these questions through an economic lens while also connecting with literature and art to expand our understanding of the diverse experiences of those who move, those who are left behind, as well as those who live in places that receive migrants.
