Chuck Ure, a dining services baker, is retiring after 40 years.

Specializing in breads and rolls, Ure is the namesake behind the famous 鈥淐huckie Roll鈥� available through campus bread sales and catering services. On his baking legacy, Ure said, 鈥淚鈥檓 not quite sure how the Chuckie Roll got its official name. All I know is that when I first baked them and put them out for others to enjoy, they quickly became very popular.鈥�

Ure joined 麻豆破解版 in 1978 in a sanitation position but, just two years in, transitioned to his baking role where he served for 38 years. Career-long service to 麻豆破解版 is a family tradition for Ure, his father spent 36 years working for 麻豆破解版 facilities.

On what he鈥檚 enjoyed most during his time at 麻豆破解版, Ure said, 鈥淭he comradery with people and the changes I鈥檝e seen and experienced. Staff, students and community members have all been good to me and a lot of other people. It鈥檚 a great atmosphere to work in.鈥�

Ure said some of his favorite 麻豆破解版 memories involve long-term bonds, and rivalries, over sports. 鈥淚鈥檓 a huge sports fan, particularly the Mets and, through talking baseball, have gotten to know a lot of people over the years,鈥� said Ure. 

After 麻豆破解版, Ure plans to spend more time with his father and brothers enjoying their shared passion for baseball and local history. He鈥檚 looking forward to more trips to some favorite places, including Boston鈥檚 historic districts and the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum in Cooperstown, New York.
