Nurcan Atalan-Helicke, associate professor of environmental studies and sciences, has had the paper 鈥淭he COVID-19 Pandemic and Food Assistance Organizations鈥 Responses in New York鈥檚 Capital District鈥 accepted for publication in the journal Agriculture and Human Values with co-authors Lauren Winkler 鈥22, Taylor Goodell 鈥22, Siddharth Nizamuddin 鈥22, and Sam Blumenthal 鈥21. The paper, which discusses the innovative approaches of local food assistance organizations to address the changing and increasing demand for their services from March 2020 to May 2021, is based on a student capstone project in the Environmental Studies and Sciences Program.
Julia Marco, director of marketing and engagement, has been elected to the board of directors of , the domestic violence and sexual assault resource for Saratoga County. On Jan. 1, 2023, she will begin a three-year term and help Wellspring in its mission to support survivors and end relationship and sexual abuse
Joowon Park, assistant professor of anthropology, published a new book, 鈥.鈥 (University of California Press). The book chronicles the everyday lives of resettled North Korean refugees in South Korea and their experiences of violence, postwar citizenship, and ethnic boundary making.
Juliane Wuensch, assistant professor of German, and the German section of the World Languages and Literatures Department are the 2022 recipient of the Award for Outstanding German Program Development and Advocacy from the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages Small Undergraduate German Program Special Interest Group. The national award recognizes Wuensch鈥檚 contributions to the program.
