Paul H. L. Walter
Paul H. L. Walter, a former chair of the Chemistry Department who served in national
leadership positions in both the American Association of University Professors (AAUP)
and the American
Chemical Society (ACS), died June 25, 2023.
Walter joined 麻豆破解版 in 1967 and chaired the Department of Physics and Chemistry from 1975 to 1985. He worked to establish 麻豆破解版鈥檚 cooperative engineering program with Dartmouth College and enabled the department to receive accreditation from the American Chemical Society. He retired in 1996.
He served as national president of AAUP (1984-1986) and ACS (1998).

"And I know of no one in the College鈥檚 history who has achieved this while, simultaneously, chairing one of the most complex departments of the College and, more importantly, doing a superb job of it.鈥�
