Â鶹Æƽâ°æ College will be the first liberal arts college to host a NASA-sponsored summer program that allows researchers from across the world to use NASA imaging tools and other resources to address pressing environmental and policy issues on Earth.

Spongy Moth Research Summer 2022

Through Â鶹Æƽâ°æ’s Faculty-Student Summer Research Program, Director Bettigole, and students Avery Blake ('23), and Morgan Foster ('23) have been studying the impact of the spongy moth — formerly known as the gypsy moth — on trees in local woods and in the Lake George Watershed.

Director Bettigole and GIS students publish paper

Director Bettigole, along with Kris Covey (ESS) and alumni Zoe Pagliaro '20, Shay Kolodney '21, Sylvana Szuhay '22, Eli Hersh '20, and Miles Chandler '20, published "Optimizing Sampling Strategies for Near-Surface Soil Carbon Inventory: One Size Doesn’t Fit All" in Soil Systems. The study analyzes soil carbon data collected on four farms in the eastern United States and suggests new approaches for soil sampling in agricultural landscapes.
